How a bill splits GST

This page states the tax split used on a BharatBiz invoice. It is not a substitute for a chartered accountant, and the app does not file a return or pull an IRN.

Looking up a GSTIN

On company profile, a customer, a vendor, or a new party on a bill, a complete 15-character GSTIN fills the state from the first two digits. Legal name and address stay typed by hand. BharatBiz does not call a GST API or scrape the GST portal.

Same state, or another state

Place of supply starts as the party state. You can change it before the invoice is issued.

If the place of supply is the same state as the shop, the line GST rate is split in half: CGST and SGST.

If the place of supply is a different state, the full rate is IGST.

A union territory uses UTGST in place of SGST when the supply stays inside that territory. The union territories in this app are Jammu and Kashmir, Chandigarh, Delhi, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Lakshadweep, Puducherry, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Ladakh.

The five rates

Each line uses one of these GST rates: 0, 5, 12, 18, or 28.

Cess defaults to zero and can be entered on a line. Money is stored in paise, and the invoice total is also written in words using lakh and crore.

Credit notes

A credit note, under section 34 of the CGST Act and rule 53 of the CGST Rules, reduces the value of an invoice that was already issued. BharatBiz numbers it on its own series, such as CN/2026-27/0001, and prints the original invoice number and date, the reason, the taxable value, the tax rate, and the tax credited.

You can credit a quantity or a taxable amount, up to what remains on the invoice. The tax split stays the same as the original bill: CGST and SGST, CGST and UTGST, or IGST. A sales return puts the credited quantity back into stock. The dashboard sales, GST, and outstanding figures are net of issued credit notes.

Quotations

A quotation is a price you send before a tax invoice. BharatBiz numbers it on its own series, such as QT/2026-27/0001. The GST split is the same as on a bill, so the quote and the later invoice match. Sending a quotation does not move stock and does not count as a sale.

The quote stays a draft until you send it. After that you can mark it accepted or declined, email the PDF, or turn a sent or accepted quote into an invoice draft. The invoice still needs to be issued before it takes stock and shows on the dashboard.

Server sync from another BharatBiz shop

If shop A bills shop B, and both shops are on BharatBiz with a GSTIN, the bill shows on shop B under Server sync. Shop B can add those lines to items and stock. The same works the other way.

Matching uses the GSTIN on the bill. Drafts stay private. Shop B does not see shop A’s other customers. The price on the bill is stored as purchase cost. Shop B must enter the selling price for each new item — it is not copied from the bill.

Purchases you enter

Server sync only shows bills another BharatBiz shop issued to your GSTIN. For every other purchase — a distributor, a cash buy, a paper invoice — enter it under Purchases. BharatBiz numbers it on its own series, such as PB/2026-27/0001.

A draft stays editable. Recording it adds the line quantities to stock and stores the line price as purchase cost. You can pick an existing item or add a new one from the purchase, with an HSN. Selling price is asked separately so the cost on the bill is not used as MRP. GST on a purchase is input tax. The dashboard GST card shows this month’s output tax, input tax from recorded purchases, and what is left to pay.

Due on the 20th

GST for a month is due on the 20th of the following month. Confirm the return that applies to the shop with a chartered accountant. BharatBiz does not prepare or file it.
